Year 3/4 Rugby World Cup Mega Fest

Gateshead School Sport Partnership were delighted to announce we were the first in the country to organise and deliver the Rugby World Cup Mega Fest. The Festival took place at Ryton RFC and attracted a huge amount of interest from Gateshead primary schools, 13 primary schools entered the Festival with a total of 36 teams taking part. The format of the Mega Fest was a resounding success as it enabled over 350 young people to take part. The Mega Fest consisted of a combination of skill based activities and tag rugby games, the RFU's focus of the Festival was to give young people an introduction and understanding of Rugby Union.

We also used this opportunity to organise a tag rugby training course for Young Leaders who volunteered to support the delivery of the festival which was delivered via the RFU. A total of 40 leaders from 3 secondary schools (Whickham School and Sports College, Thorp Academy and Emmanuel College) enrolled on the course and supported the Festival delivery.

The festival was a huge success and will be implemented in to our calendar of events across all of the Rugby Clubs in the borough as a legacy to the Rugby World Cup 2015.
