Owing to the success of our Summer Term Campaign (#UNITE) we are now delighted to launch #INSPIRE. #INSPIRE focusses on the provision of support and virtual challenges / opportunities for school staff and their pupils. The Programme is being introduced with the aspiration of promoting togetherness across Gateshead whilst encouraging a little fun, creativity and competition along the way.

Currently the following events are being offered as part of the #INSPIRE Programme:

From January 2021 we'll be releasing two skipping skill tutorials each week, affording participating schools and pupils at home, the flexibility to determine how best and when to engage.  The overarching aim is quite simple, to get as many children as possible skipping! We'll also be launching a competitive element after February Half Term, providing an additional opportunity for pupils to showcase their skills and for schools/individuals to sustain the activity in a purposeful and meaningful way.

Lastly, we'll be asking EVERYONE to get involved with the SKIPPING CELEBRATION DAY on the 19th March 2021 - SAVE THE DATE.

As always, the safety of young people should remain paramount when undertaking any activity.  We would therefore like to draw your attention to the following safety information:

In addition to this; as we are encouraging the use of social media to share your experiences with us (tagging @Gateshead SSP and using the hashtag #INSPIRE), it is also important that we all ensure online safety guidance is adhered to.  We have therefore collated a range of online safety resources below to assist you to keep young people safe online:

From Monday 11th January 2021 the #INSPIRE virtual torch will start it's journey around Gateshead passing between participating schools until the virtual #INSPIRE Showcase event on Friday 23rd April 2021. Registered schools will be incorporated into the planned route for the virtual torch relay and allocated a date on which the virtual torch will visit them. Ahead of the torch arriving, participating schools will be tasked with a series fun and engaging of challenges. This will include a small number of mandatory classroom activities as well as a range of additional, optional elements:

  - Torch Design Competition (Mandatory)

  - #INSPIRE pledge creation (Mandatory)

  - Physical Activity Challenge Creation (Optional)

  - Handover ceremony including creative performances/displays (Optional)

When the torch arrives at your school, you’ll be provided with a classroom celebration resource and asked to undertake some more focused activities:

  - Undertake some very important ‘judging tasks’ where you’ll have the opportunity to
review the work of other schools as part of the torch and pledge competitions.

  - Participate in a borough wide cumulative physical activity challenge.

All registered schools will receive additional details on Wednesday 25th November.  This will include an overview of the planned route and confirmation of dates on which the torch will visit each school.

As you will be aware the Gateshead Schools Gymnastics, Trampolining and Cheerleading Festival usually takes place at Gateshead Leisure Centre at the start of December. This is a hugely popular event, providing the opportunity for more than 1000 children to showcase their work. Although we are unable to hold a physical event this year, we know your pupils will be keen to have a goal to work towards and an opportunity to showcase their work and recognise their achievements.

Therefore this year we will be hosting a virtual 'Creative Performance Showcase Event'. To participate you will need to have a performance ready to share with us, via upload to your own school website, on or before Thursday 10th December.

Welcome to Winter RUNderland! Suitable for most primary age groups, this Christmas themed physical activity challenge goes live on Tuesday 1st December.  Schools will be provided with a range of resources and supporting materials to help promote and reward children’s participation in physical activity. Specifically, class groups will be challenged to help Santa and his reindeer complete their annual Christmas Eve journey around the globe.

How do they do this? … earning lots of carrots of course! And how are carrots earned? … being active!  Children will also have the opportunity to participate in a range of fun, Christmas inspired challenges to help our Winter RUNderland characters as they work their way from continent to continent.

Winter RUNderland is also a WILDCARD Project as part of this year's Blazing The Trail Programme, so if your school takes part don't forget to submit your Activity log to us and collect your stamp in your BTT Passport!
