UNITE

#UNITE CAMPAIGN SUMMARY

Due to the ongoing situation and following on from the success of our first virtual event - #DANCEUNITE, we extended the #UNITE programme throughout the remainder of the academic year. Throughout the Summer Term we provided schools and families with further opportunities to get involved in both physical activity programmes as well as cultural projects made up of the following campaigns:

  • #DANCEUNITE
  • #RUNUNITE
  • #SKIPUNITE
  • #WRITEUNITE
  • #DRAWUNITE
  • #QUIZUNITE

All of the #UNITE campaigns focussed on the importance of 'uniting' the community and the 5 ways to wellbeing:

  • Bring people together and connect
  • Get people active and have fun while doing so
  • Teach our young people about the importance of giving through helping friends and family
  • Learn something new, even if we don't always get it right straight away
  • To live in the moment and take notice of just how far you have come

Follow us on social media @gatesheadssp to find regular updates on the programme and you can find all video content on our Gateshead School Sport Partnership YouTube Channel here.

You can find a full summary of all #UNITE campaigns here and further details around each individual project below in case you missed them but would still like to give them a go.

RUNUNITE was our second #UNITE campaign this summer. This took place from 15th to the 19th June 2020 and involved both schools and families in our community getting outside and running a mile a day! Each day there was a different theme linked to the 5 ways to wellbeing and you can still find all of the videos with your Virtual Running Buddies (Matt Bailey & Olympian Peter Bakare) on our Youtube channel here - so you can go back and run whenever you like!

#WRITEUNITE

WRITEUNITE was the first of our 'cultural' #UNITE campaigns and was launched on the 24th June. Local Author & Illustrator Liz Million was the special guest who launched the campaign. We asked school children from Key Stage 1, 2 and 3 to write a poem based on a sports day. This could be about a real sports day or one you had in your imagination! There were prizes for the winners and highly commended entries for each key stage, as well as prizes for the school which enagaged the most. If you still fancy giving this a try then you can find all of the videos on our Youtube Channel here. You can also find a Poem Template by following the link if you want to give it a try at home.

#DRAWUNITE

DRAWUNITE was our second 'cultural' campaign and was launched on the 29th June. We asked school children to draw a poster of different physical activities people can do during this time of lockdown. This could be playing football in the garden or dancing in your living room! As with Write Unite, there were prizes for winners in each key stage and overall school winners for the most engagement.

If you missed #DRAWUNITE or you would like to give it another go then you can find the tutorial video on how to draw a poster of someone taking part in physical activity from children's illustrator and author Liz Million on our Youtube Channel here.
