New Horizons Conference preview
The Primary PE Conference entitled 'New Horizons' took place on Friday 7 October 2011 at Gateshead Leisure Centre. It was a very successful day where candidates enjoyed a mixture of both practical and theoretical sessions.
The day began with those in attendance selecting an Olympic/Paralympic Games country for their school. This will be used in the School Sport Partnership medals table as part of our London 2012 Legacy Offer to schools.
In our keynote speach we heard about valuable lessons learned by Cullercoats Primary School on being awarded Specialist Sports College status under the last government. Their Deputy Headteacher, Kevin Youlden, shared many secrets of their journey, from selection to approval, as one of only a handful of primary schools throughout the country being awarded this status. An interesting and very revealing session.
This was followed by some consultation and feedback work around CPD provision and our proposed London 2012 legacy offer to schools 'Blazing the Trail'.
In the afternoon our candidates took part in a series of practical workshops delivered by NGB tutors. The practical sessions concluded with a fun and enlightening session around the inclusion of young disabled people in PE and school sport.
