KS2 BOCCIA Competition

KS2 BOCCIA Competition

The KS2 BOCCIA Competition attracted an amazing 32 teams from 11 Gateshead Primary Schools, which set a fantastic new record for this Event. The Gateshead SSP team were kindly assisted by Young Leaders from Whickham School and Sports College, they done a great job supervising and umpiring all of the Boccia games.

The 32 teams were split into 8 groups of 4 teams, each team played 3 games. After an enjoyable, intense and fun morning it was time for a well deserved dinner break.

After the initial group stage games were completed, teams were allocated new groups pending on where they finished in the morning session.

And so, the second group stage got underway and it was clear that all the teams involved had quickly got the hang of Boccia as the games improved and became more tactical.

On conclusion of the second group stage the top 2 teams from Group 1 and 2 played in the final and the runners up in Group 1 and 2 played in a Third Place play off, those teams were;

Carr Hill (B) Vs Front Street (B)

Third Place Play-Off

Carr Hill (A) Vs Oakfield (B)

Before the final games took place a Respect Award was awarded to the school that demonstrated excellent sportsmanship and fair play. The award went to South Street Primary.

During the final games, the tension hit fever pitch, you could hear a pin drop, and both games were extremely close. The Third Place play off ended level so an extra end was required, Carr Hill (A) won the extra end taking third place. The final was also very tight; all team members produced some excellent Boccia. But it was Carr Hill (B) who just shaded it and they were crowned the winners with Front Street (B) taking the runners up spot.
