Teachers put through their paces on Athletics Course

Several teachers from our Gateshead primary schools were put through their paces on a Youth Sport Trust national training course this week. They engaged in a mixture of theory and practical work designed to help them to improve their understanding of teaching athletics and how to unlock the potential of their pupils (aged 7-11 years) in KS2 PE by:

  1. Developing young people's physical and social skill development;
  2. Improving young people's wider learning skills, such as confidence and managing their emotions; and
  3. Increasing young people's understanding of their health and well-being.

The teachers attending the TOP Athletics course now have full access to the TOP Sport programme resource cards, posters and other online resources. With this high quality support and training available for our teachers who know we may see some budding Olympian/Paralympian athletes emerging in the future from our schools?

The course is an element of Sporting Promise - TOP Sport programme. It is an award-winning grass roots sports initiative and is a partnership between Matalan, Sporting Pro and the Youth Sport Trust, and ensures that children across the country have vital access to sports activity in school. TOP Sport supports the delivery of PE and sport in primary schools across the country and it supports the new National Curriculum.
