Blazing the Trail 2015/16 - NOW LIVE

This programme continues to grow and 2014/15 saw a record number of schools awarded the Gold Blazing the Trail Kitemark. The quality of evidence supporting submissions was fantastic, and we as an SSP are excited about the programme developments and enhanced opportunities. As I’m sure most of you will be aware the programme went through some big changes last year and saw the introduction of the Pathway Projects, which were extremely popular and are an element we hope will continue to go strength to strength.

The guidance document can be found via this link. This year we would like to put an emphasis on the type of evidence submitted in order to achieve individual projects and overall value marks. We have set more stringent guidelines relating to evidence submissions to ensure we are in receipt of high quality material which can then be used to develop a ‘sharing good practice resource’ to support school engagement in future years. Therefore I would ask that when submitting evidence for a project you check the guidance document to ensure the relevant criteria is adhered to.

In previous years the Sainsbury’s School Game Mark criteria has been linked to the BTT programme, however this year’s BTT programme has been designed to further compliment this national award by incorporating the pre-requisites and the standards that best suit and link to Olympic and Paralympic values. Notably, ALL of the criteria currently required to achieve a BRONZE SSG Mark have been included, alongside some more aspirational Gold award criteria. BTT project links to the SSG Mark are clearly denoted throughout the guidance document through the inclusion of a ‘Sainsbury’s School Games Mark Links’ column within which the appropriate bronze or gold award logo is displayed.

Each of the seven value marks have a dedicated ‘Pathway Project’ with clear cross-curricular links. Each ‘Pathway Project’ will feed into the Gateshead School Sport Awards, with the winners of each project invited to showcase their work and collect an award. To further enhance the programme we are organising a series of opportunities/awards attached to each ‘Pathway Project’, detail of which are included within the information packs. All of the Pathway Project are now LIVE, hyperlinks to all of the Pathway Projects descriptors are outlined below for your reference and use. Please note that each of the projects has it’s own entry deadline, these have also been listed in red below for your reference.

• Excellence: Photo of the Month Competition (Entry Deadline: Last Day of each Month)
• Respect: School Sport Organising Crew Project Plan (Entry Deadline: Friday 18th March 2016)

• Courage: Top Trumps Competition (Entry Deadline: Friday 24th June 2015)
• Equality: Level 1 School Games Day Reporting Competition (Entry Deadline: Friday 1st July 2016)

You will note that there is no Inspiration Pathway Project listed above, this is because the project was directly linked to the Gateshead Schools Dance Festival and therefore no evidence is required for submission.
