#INSPIRE VIRTUAL TORCH RELAY 2024 SUCCESS!
Our 2024 #INSPIRE Torch Relay started at the beginning of June. The project saw 26 Gateshead schools and over 6,000 children come together to celebrate community and Olympic spirit by taking a leg of the relay!
Each participating school hosted the #INSPIRE Torch for one day, as it travelled around Gateshead. On their Torch Days, schools celebrated in many different ways, including physical activity challenges, dances, running relays and learning about the Olympic Torch Relay. As well as this, schools submitted entries into a "Torch Design Competition" (winners shown below) and also submitted applications to become a Torch Bearer within their school.
After visiting all schools, the Torch was carried into Gateshead International Stadium on Friday 28th June as part of the march-on parade to signify the start of the #INSPIRE Gateshead Primary Schools Athletics Festival 2024. The Torch was held high by torch bearers from the final schools on the relay route as it made it's way onto the track.
The #INSPIRE Torch Relay certainly raised Olympic spirit ahead of the Paris 2024 Games and was a huge success for those involved! We hope to continue to commit to this project a part of a legacy and already have our sights set on LA 2028!
