NEW VENUE! - KS1 Indoor Athletics Festival
It was extremely exciting to be hosting an event in a new venue yesterday! Our Key Stage 1 Indoor Athletics Festival toook place in Gateshead College's "Academy for Sport". The specialist academy's facilities feature an 83m long indoor athletics track, as well as a full size long jump pit, high jump mat and indoor throwing circle.
Our Key Stage 1 pupils certainly made the most of these excellent facilities as they travelled around 5 athletics disciplines. The children were able to try a wide range of athletic activities including spints, long jump, hurdles, high jump and a throw.
Groups travelled around each discipline where they were guided through...
- a SKILL zone - to warm them up and perfect their technique.
- a GAME zone - to put their skills to the test and have fun.
- a COMPETE zone - putting everything they had learned into practice, where scores were recorded.
Our highest score in each discipline was awarded a special certificate.
We're so excited to host more events in the Academy for Sport and can't wait to see many of you there again over the school year.
