The MSF #INSPIRE Gateshead Schools Fun Run 2025!
Over 3,500 Gateshead schoolchildren recently took part in a very special fun run in beautiful Saltwell Park.
The youngsters, aged from just three-years-old to 11, represented 39 schools in the borough and ran a circuit of the park in glorious sunshine.
The event, the MSF Inspire Gateshead Schools Fun Run, organised by the Gateshead School Sports Partnership has been running successfully for 13 years.
Encouraging children to enjoy all the benefits of being active outdoors, this year, for the first time, the fun run also supported our Foundation, part of Newcastle Hospitals Charity.
Kevin Hay, service manager at Gateshead School Sports Partnership, says: “It’s been great to see so many young people from Gateshead Schools taking part in our annual Fun Run once again.
“This is one of our flagship events and has been delivered by Gateshead SSP in various guises for a number of years now and this is the first time we’ve partnered with a local charity.
“We were very keen to use the power of this event to benefit a local cause. The Sir Bobby Robson Foundation was the perfect fit and we’re excited to see the positive impact we can make together now and in the future.
“A huge thank you must also go our to all our event delivery partners and especially MSF and Flannery Plant Hire for their generous event sponsorship.”
Working within the NHS and in partnership with other leading charities and organisations, the innovative cancer treatment funded by our Foundation includes the clinical trials of new cancer drugs.
Jack Stewart, fundraising coordinator at Newcastle Hospitals Charity, a former pupil at Marley Hill Primary School, took part in the run when he was nine-years-old and was hugely honoured to be the event’s official starter this year.
Jack says: “I have such fond memories of doing this run as a child. Being out in the park with all the other schools was really special and it’s wonderful to see so many kids still enjoying themselves and being inspired by the day.
“We’re very touched that The Sir Bobby Robson Foundation has been included in this year’s event and we’re grateful to all the children, parents and schools who have supported us with donations.”
Patients with advanced cancer come from across the North East and Cumbria for treatment at the Sir Bobby Robson Cancer Trials Research Centre, at the Northern Centre for Cancer Care, in Newcastle.
Originally equipped by our Foundation, the centre serves a catchment area of 3.5m people regionally and is making a global impact against cancer.
We also fund posts for both a doctor and a nurse to specialise in clinical drug trials within the centre.
