Tour of Britain
On Tuesday 10th September Stage 4 of the Tour of Britain came to Gateshead and the national cycling race did not disappoint!
More than 1500 pupils from schools right across Gateshead lined the streets to cheer on the Cyclists as they started their 173.2km race to Kendal, and some lucky schools even made it onto the TV!
As well as the many schools that came out to support the riders, nine lucky school children were also selected to represent Gateshead and lead out the riders at the start of the stage. All Ambassadors were individuals who had won Sport Achiever Awards at the Gateshead Schools Sports Awards Evening earlier in the year, and alongside St Joseph's Highfield, were wearing the cycle jersey based on the winning design by one of their pupils.
The Ambassadors and St Joseph's Highfield pupils got to meet some of the riders during the Team Sign on and also take part in various activities around the start of the race.
It was a great event made even more successful through school engagement so thank you to all of those who came out to support and we hope, like us, that you're already looking forward to next year!
